When I Grow Up

By Frankie Spence
Different Gravy created this short docu ‘When I Grow Up’ for the Young Camden Foundation to highlight their vitally important Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme that supports children from low-income families during the summer holidays. HAF provides nutritious, hot meals to children who receive free school meals, addressing food insecurity while promoting enriching opportunities during a critical period of development.

We commissioned our good friend and young Somesuch director to direct the film is Spence to direct this film, her unique storytelling ability and first-hand perspective being a young person from London added a layer of authenticity and creative insight to the film.

By capturing the essence of HAF through the beautiful everyday scenes, we hope to inspire continued support for Young Camden Foundation, emphasizing the necessity of such programmes that foster equity and safe spaces and inspiration for the young people of Camden and beyond.

‘When I Grow Up’ is more than a call to act; it is a visual exploration of how grassroots communities and access can inspire change, instill hope, and open doors to a brighter future. It serves as a reminder of the power of storytelling to not only reflect but also shape the communities we live in.

This film is currently premiering on NOWNESS, further amplifying its reach and impact, and highlighting its relevance to broader social issues.
